Higher National Diploma (HND)

Highlights:

HND courses offered in:

• Accounting (AAT)  • Computing • Business  • Health and Social Care • Sport

INTRODUCTION:

Students undertaking this Higher HND in Business will study a total of 16 units over 2 years, which cover a wide range of business topics, with a particular emphasis on marketing, and provides opportunities for learners to focus on development of higher-level skills in a business context.

As well as enabling the students to understand the business and economic environment on a local, national and global level, the course will enable the learner to understand how organisations operate at a strategic level and how decisions are made using investment appraisal and decision making techniques. The course also gives an extensive overview of the marketing function and considers the purchase decision-making process and the variables and situations influencing buyer behaviour as well as exploring the marketing research process and sales planning and operations.

The course provides opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills and techniques essential for successful performance in working life.  Anyone undertaking this course will be challenged by current and new thinking in a business context and as such would be an asset to any organisation where their learning can be applied in real-life business contexts. To implement fresh ideas in a real-life organisational setting would enable traditional thinking to be confronted and new and contemporary methods introduced. This in turn can lead to organisational barriers being challenged, thus enabling growth and sustainability in an ever competitive market place.

Future Leaders Programme:

The idea behind the programme is that we have engaged with a group of local employers who will employ some of our students to work on specific projects and gain experience in their companies. Employers will assess and decide whether a student is suitable for the opportunity and hence this is not an guarantee option for all HNC/HND students.
